SEVHAGE Publishers and SEVHAGE Literary and Development Initiative present the SEVHAGE Literary Prizes 2019 in the categories of short stories, poetry and creative non-fiction.
Submission Dates: 11th May 2019 to 26th May 2019 [23:58 GMT] LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED.

Winners Announced: 22nd June, 2019 at the Benue Book and Arts Festival (Presented by SEVHAGE)

SPECIFIC GUIDELINES
- SEVHAGE Short Story Prize 2019
Prizes:
- First Prize: N50,000 + N3000 worth of books ● First Runner Up Prize: N15,000 worth of books ● Second Runner Up Prize: N10,000 worth of books. ● Fourth and Fifth: N5,000 worth of books each.
Submission Guidelines
- The competition is open to Nigerians aged 18 to 35 who are resident in Nigeria.
- Entrants can submit only one story (2,500 words maximum limit) which must be an original work that has not been published anywhere (whether online in a book, blog or social media post) or won any prize.
- All short stories should be sent as an attachment in a single doc. (format: Times New Roman font, single line spacing, font 12) to sevhageprizes@gmail.com following this format:
- Subject of the e-mail should read: ‘SEVHAGE Short Story Prize 2019’
- In the body of the email, include YOUR NAME, YEAR OF BIRTH, RESIDENT CITY, TITLE OF YOUR WORK, EMAIL ADDRESS, CONTACT ADDRESS and PHONE NUMBER.
- Do not include your name either in the subject of your submission email or in the attached doc. Any entry that violates this guideline will be automatically disqualified.
- You can only make one entry, which cannot be resubmitted or changed. So, make all changes before you submit. Be sure before you submit.
- For emphasis, no mention or reference to the author or the author’s personal details should be made in the attached story or it would be disqualified.
- Shortlisted writers might be required to produce evidence of age.
- Judges’ decision are final and not open to debate.
- SEVHAGE/Angya Poetry Prizes 2019
SEVHAGE/Angya Prize for Poetry has been instituted by SEVHAGE Literary and Development Initiative, SEVHAGE Publishers and Dr. Paul Angya. The prize is divided into two categories:
- SEVHAGE/Angya Prize for Poetry (General Category, open to any Nigerian resident in Nigeria aged 18-35).
- SEVHAGE/Angya Prize for Students’ Poetry (Open to Secondary School students in Nigeria).
Prizes:
General Category ● First Prize: N50,000 ● First Runner Up: N30,000 ● Second Runner Up: N20,000 ● Fourth and Fifth Places: N3,000 worth of books.
Students Prize ● First Prize: N20,000 + N5,000 worth of books ● First Runner Up Prize: N12,000 + N3,000 worth of books. Second Runner Up Prize: N8,000 + N2,000 worth of books. ● Fourth and Fifth Places N2,000 worth of books. ● Special Prize for Best Entry from Benue state: N10,000 and books worth N2,000. If this person or the next is among the top three, then the prize will be renegotiated and given to the next best from the state.
Submission Guidelines
- The general category is open to Nigerians aged 18 to 35 who are resident in Nigeria while the student prize is only open to students in secondary schools in Nigeria.
- Entrants can submit a maximum of 3 poems (not longer than 40 lines) which must be an original work that has not been published anywhere (whether online in a book, blog or social media post) or won any prize.
- All poems should be sent as an attachment in a single doc. (format: Times New Roman font, single line spacing, font 12) to sevhageprizes@gmail.com following this format:
- Subject of the e-mail should read: ‘SEVHAGE/Angya Poetry Prize 2019.’
- In the body of the email, include YOUR NAME, YEAR OF BIRTH, RESIDENT CITY, TITLE OF YOUR POEM(S), CATEGORY OF ENTRY, EMAIL ADDRESS, CONTACT ADDRESS and CONTACT PHONE NUMBER.
- Do not include your name either in the subject of your submission email or in the attached doc. Any entry that violates this guideline will be automatically disqualified.
- You can only make one entry, which cannot be resubmitted or changed. So, make all changes before you submit. Be sure before you submit.
- You have one shot at submission with your entries and will not be able to resubmit or change anything. Any entry suspect of this will be automatically disqualified.

- SEVHAGE Creative Non-Fiction Prize 2019
Prizes:
- First Prize: N20,000 worth of books ● Second Prize: N10,000 worth of books ● Third Prize: N5,000 worth of books.
Submission Guidelines
- The competition is open to Nigerians aged 18 to 35 who are resident in Nigeria.
- Entrants can submit only one piece (2,500 words maximum limit) on the theme ‘Changing Narratives.’ This can be interpreted in any way by the writer but must be justified in the piece.
- The interpretation will form part of the rubric for marks awarded in this category.
- Every entry must be an original work that has not been published anywhere (whether online in a book, blog or social media post) or won any prize.
- All creative non-fiction pieces should be sent as an attachment in a single doc. (format: Times New Roman font, single line spacing, font 12) to sevhageprizes@gmail.com following this format:
- Subject of the e-mail should read: ‘SEVHAGE Creative Non-Fiction Prize 2019’
- In the body of the email, include YOUR NAME, YEAR OF BIRTH, RESIDENT CITY, TITLE OF YOUR WORK, EMAIL ADDRESS, CONTACT ADDRESS and PHONE NUMBER.
- Do not include your name either in the subject of your submission email or in the attached doc. Any entry that violates this guideline will be automatically disqualified.

- All entries will be judged anonymously and the shortlisted writers in every category will be contacted via email after the announcements have been made public.
- Certain entries will be published online and/or in print by SEVHAGE.
- By entering the competition, entrants agree to give SEVHAGE and her representatives the right to publish their entries online or in print.
